With answers, more questions

I’ve finished a bit more of the website. For example, I’ve found a reliable share feature that can be seen at the bottom of the page. I also figured out my “gravatar.” And, I came up with a comment box design that looks pretty decent.

Now I am left with a few solid questions:

On my “About Me” page, I’d like to have RSS-fed updates from various media sites I like to use, but the problem is, I can’t find any reliable widgets, and those I can find run through the plugins page in WP, and I can’t seem to execute the php code to activate the plugin in my content page (even with the “PHP-Execute” plugin activated). Down on the right side of my friend’s blog, there is a “What I’m Playing, What i’m reading, etc.” widget. It’s one of those standard blogger widgets that is creatively customizable.

I want to do something similar, following suit with my Goodreads flash-based tool. Albert Banks came up with a neat little widget for the netflix RSS feed, but I can’t seem to get it to work. If you can see what I’m trying to do there, do you have any suggestions? Or perhaps you notice something on Banks’s website about implementing the widget that I’ve missed?

Next, I’ve got my contact page settled with how I want it to look, but I haven’t activated the submit button yet. I’m still not sure the neatest way to direct a content page to do a php action, especially since, well, WP content pages aren’t designed to be dynamic. I tried something with the PHP-Execute plugin, and this didn’t work. I reinstalled the plug-in; I still had no luck. I think the best thing to do would be to put a “mailto:” function somewhere in one of the php files of my contact form, but I have yet to discover where.

Finally, Once I have these issues sorted, I’m hoping it will be easy for me to put a blog hook in my sub-pages under Photos. I’m not sure if I’ll need to create a filter that keeps the Daily Photos off the main blog page, or if I just have to create a category, upload the blog posts all to the main page, and have the Daily Photos link simply single out the category. I don’t want to create multiple blogs.

Anyway, if you’re out there reading this and have some pointers to toss my way, I’d greatly appreciate it. Time for a Mountain Dew. Oh, and, Happy St. Valentine’s Day.
